Guten Tag! Bonjour! Welcome to DW’s live coverage of Germany’s Euro 2020 opener against reigning world champions France.

Not only have Germany had to wait over a year since Euro 2020 was originally due to kick off, their position in Group F means they’ve had to wait until last to get their campaign underway. But in Munich on Tuesday, the wait will be over.

Benzema back in a France shirt
Karim Benzema will be hoping he will get his first start in a major international competition since the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

The Real Madrid striker has played the last two friendlies alongside Kylian Mbappe in the French attack, in what is a tantalising attacking pairing.

Despite the player picking up a knock in the Bulgaria game, he should be available for Didier Deschamps.

Colleagues up against each other
There are a host of players who will play against their teammates in this game of footballing powerhouses.

Chelsea’s Antonio Rudiger, Kai Havertz and Timo Werner will go up against N’Golo Kante and Kurt Zouma, while Benzema and Raphael Varane will go against their teammate of seven years Toni Kroos, with the three players representing Real Madrid.

There are a total of 12 players who could all feature who ply their trade at the Allianz Arena for Bayern Munich, so it will be a home from home for those players.

We’ll have live buildup and coverage throughout the day right here, including updates from the earlier game in Group F, Portugal vs. Hungary.
