Group H favourites PSG will look to get their Champions League campaign off to a winning start against Manchester United in the French capital after having reached last season’s final.

Eighteen months ago, these two sides appeared to be going in different directions, as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer—in one of his early games in charge of United—masterminded a remarkable comeback against the French giants.

The Parisian outfit, which have only lost seven of their 53 home UEFA Champions League matches, will be able to call upon Neymar, who has been confirmed fit to start after he was rested for their last game against Nimes on Friday night. He will join Kylian Mbappé up front, who could surpass Lionel Messi as the youngest player to score 20 goals in the Champions League.

While United finished the 2019-20 strongly during Project Restart, there have been some unconvincing performances so far this term, and they’ll be desperate to assert themselves against the French heavyweights.

The bad news for Thomas Tuchel is that Mauro Icardi, Juan Bernat and Thilo Kehrer will miss the match through injury. Marquinhos, Julian Draxler, Marco Verrati and Danilo Pereira are doubts after sitting out at the weekend.

Paris Saint-Germain host Manchester United for one of the standout games of the opening round. They met in the last-16 two seasons ago, when United advanced in dramatic fashion thanks to a stoppage-time penalty winner in the second leg in Paris.

A big subplot could have been the presence of Edinson Cavani in United’s squad for his debut for the English team after joining as a free agent this month following his departure from PSG, where he scored 200 goals in 301 games. Cavani has not traveled for the game, however.

As for the Red Devils, who bounced back from their Spurs humiliation with a 4-1 victory at Newcastle United, Edinson Cavani’s swift return to Parc des Princes is the headline team news after he completed his quarantine period. The Uruguayan star, though, may start on the bench, since he has not featured in a competitive game since March.

Neymar should be feeling fresh for PSG, last season’s beaten finalist, having been left out of the win over Nimes on Friday. PSG coach Thomas Tuchel has fitness concerns over center back Marquinhos and midfielders Marco Verratti and Leandro Paredes.
