The Blues have had an indifferent start to the campaign with one win, one draw and a defeat.
However, the Eagles have had a better beginning to the 2020/21 season with two wins from their opening three matches.
They were well beaten at home to Liverpool and had to come back from 3-0 down to salvage a draw at newly promoted West Brom last week. On top of that they were beaten on penalties by a second-string Spurs on Tuesday in the Carabao Cup – a match they should have won.
That match was notable not only for Chelsea’s inability to see off a flat Spurs side, but also for Lampard’s war of words with Jose Mourinho – his old boss and mentor. He’s up against Roy Hodgson today and has promised no such antics on the Stamford Bridge sidelines.

Pulisic is fit enough to feature today, for the first time all season, but starts on the bench.
Hudson-Odoi pinches a spot in the starting XI as rumours about a move to Bayern Munich continue to circulate .
It’s four changes to the side to the XI that were picked to face Tottenham in the cup; Tomori, Kovacic, Mount and Giroud are warming the bench for this fixture instead.
Abraham starts today and has plenty of history against the Eagles, having bagged three goals in his last four meetings with the side.

Chelsea are trying to still integrate some of their new signings and should have some big players back from injury for a crucial match against Roy Hodgson’s team.
It’s a London derby and one, even though it’s early in the season, you suspect Chelsea have to win. It’s been an inauspicious start to the new campaign for Frank Lampard and the Blues legend is under pressure.
He spent over £230 million in the summer – Russian sugar daddy Roman Abramovich opening his wallet in a way not seen for several years – and just one win against Brighton is not a lot to show for it.
