Manchester City will look to add to Arsenal’s misery to start the 2021-22 English Premier League season when it welcomes the Gunners to the Etihad Stadium on Saturday. While Man City bounced back from an opening week defeat to Tottenham with a thumping 5-0 win over Norwich City, Arsenal has lost its first two contests of the campaign to Brentford and Chelsea, and currently sit in 19th place. City manager Pep Guardiola should continue to lean on players such as Jack Grealish, Gabriel Jesus and Raheem Sterling, whereas Arsenal will hope to break down a Man City defense led by Portuguese international Ruben Dias.

Lots of people have been dismissing Arsenal in the run-up to this game, but looking down their teamsheet they have more than enough to not just resist City but cause problems at the other end.

Gabriel Jesus made hay against Norwich last week but Kieran Tierney should be a different prospect, while the return of Aubameyang – who has damaged City in the past – will give them a better cutting edge.

Those thinking this will be a walk-over might be in for a surprise.

Guardiola moved to clarify those remarks, pointing out he merely said he will take a break from the game when he eventually does leave the Premier League champions.

“I am not thinking to leave after two years,” he said. “I can leave in two months if the results aren’t good or the organization isn’t happy with me. I can leave in three months or five years.

“What I said is after my period at City I will take a break,” he continued. “It can be in one month, two years, five years. Right now, I don’t have reasons to leave.”

The Gunners were beaten by newly-promoted Brentford on the opening night of the campaign and then found themselves outclassed by Chelsea at the Emirates last Sunday to start the 2021/22 season with successive defeats.

A visit to the champions looks like another tough ask but Mikel Arteta’s side can at least be buoyed by a 6-0 thumping of a young West Brom side in the Carabao Cup in midweek.

City have already come unstuck against north London opposition once this season, losing 1-0 at Tottenham in their opener, but they responded by hammering Norwich last weekend.
